A Love of Her Sex

"The World's the Theater where she did act.

No memories, nor volumes can contain,

The Nine Olymp'ades of her happy reign,

Who was so good, so just, so learn'd, so wise,

From all the Kings on earth she won the prize."

- Anne Bradstreet, In Honour of that High and Mighty Princess, Queen Elizabeth

Analysis

Bradstreet's love of Queen Elizabeth and her political prowess is a reminder of the 21st century kinds of leaders available in rare quantities, like Hillary Clinton as a Secretary of State. Clinton's political prowess could have certainly been like the Queen's, since "The World's the Theater where she did act." Queen Elizabeth is also like a Gloria Steinem, who was a queen in her own right and politically challenged patriarchy, since Queen Elizabeth "From all the Kings on earth she won the prize." Indeed, Steinem and Clinton won, but were also "so good, so just, so learn'd, so wise." For Bradstreet, loving her sex is a heart swelling emotion; she wants the love of the female sex to stay, and it shall never fade and become eternal
